Playlist: Expressions

Updated: Nov 1, 2020

Welcome to the electriqsoul music blog. Visit this space to unplug and let your mind connect and let go to a musical escape and sound exploration. Think of this blog as an ongoing discovery of sounds where you can reshape your sound mind.

Expressions playlist is inspired by the sounds of Canadian musician Grimes and a mix to compliment some of my favorite new tracks of hers. It features Tommy Genesis, Eli & Fur, Lapsley, a few tracks from Grimes, Halsey, Lykke Li and more. The playlist is fused together by electronic melodies and powerful (mostly) female vocals all on a similar shelf range. You can listen to the Expressions playlist via Spotify here:

Featured Artists:

Song 1: Tommy Genesis | I'm Yours

Tommy Genesis is a Canadian rapper, model and visual artist. "I'm Yours" was released in 2019

Song 2: Eli & Fur | Into the Night

Eli & Fur are a DJ and electronic music producer duo comprising of Eliza Noble and Jennifer Skillman, hailing from London, England.

Song 3: Lapsley | Womxn

Holly Lapsley FLetcher, known by the stage name Låpsley, is an English singer, songwriter, musician, producer.

Song 4: Halsey | Killing Boys

Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, known as Halsey is an American singer, songwriter and activist. She is 26 years old and from Edison, NJ. Her first release was in 2014 her debut album EP Room 93. Her path to success has not been without difficulty. At 17 she attempted suicide which led to a 17-day hospital stay and was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She began dating an older guy who lived on Halsey St. in Brooklyn and this is where she first started writing music and where she felt like there was something bigger for her. Halsey is kind of like a manifestation of all the exaggerated parts of her, like an alter ego.

Song 5: SAULT | Up All Night

An anonymous collective with impeccable ability to combine elements of funk, rare groove and soul to create something dark, spacious and atmospheric.

Song 6: Grimes | Cry

Claire Boucher is from Vancouver, Canadian. She is a self-taught musician and visual artist and began writing music under the name Grimes in 2007 at the age of 19. Boucher's debut album as Grimes, Geidi Primes, is a concept album inspired by the Dune series. It was released by Arbutus Records on cassette in 2010. Beginning in May 2011, Grimes opened for Lykke Li on her North American Tour.

On June 26, 2014, Grimes premiered her new track "Go", produced by and featuring Blood Diamonds. It was a track that had been written for and rejected by Rihanna and was premiered on Zane Lowe's radio 1 show. Rolling Stone ranked it number fourteen on their Best Songs of 2014 list.

As of October 29, 2020 revealed in a new interview that she now goes by “c.”

According to the New York Times, the partner of Elon Musk said her new name is a reference to the speed of light. C welcomed a baby boy, X Æ A-XII Musk, back in May. The nickname for her baby's complicated name is X.
